Former website editor, writer, and photographer for Fecal Face Dot Com
and Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine, Ert has been blogging since 1997,
all the while showcasing work from emerging and underground artists.

Ert will also work closely with us in the growth and shaping of the magazine.
We look forward to her thought-provoking writing and harvesting fresh content.

Kirsten Anderson
Editor at Large

Kirsten has been the founder and owner of Roq la Rue Gallery since 1998.
The gallery has hosted exhibitions by almost every underground art heavyweight
as well as helping launch the careers of a new wave of emerging artists.
In addition, she compiled and edited the seminal survey of Lowbrow/Pop Surrealism
with the book, "Pop Surrealism," and has written about art for numerous publications.

We look forward to more of Kirsten's writing and her eye for finding talented artists.

Rivet Gallery is proud to present Annie Owens' first solo art show,
showcasing her most recent set of dark and beautiful water color paintings.

Annie was born in Alabama, “parcel posted to the Philippines,” and after
three years, was returned to the States and educated in the San Francisco
Bay Area where she earned her BFA in film and video. She is a fan of old
horror films, the art of Charles Addams and Edward Gorey and the writings
of Roald Dahl, Edgar Allan Poe, and H.P. Lovecraft.

Rivet is designer toy and art gallery located in the Short North arts district of
Columbus, Ohio. They carry a variety of limited edition collectible designer
vinyl toys, DIY art toys, and plush, in addition to presenting excellent works
of original art and prints by pop-surrealist, lowbrow, and underground artists.

December Disaster for Golen Galery

Thanks for the heads up from Bear and Bird Gallery about the Howard Golen Gallery Fire disaster.
We just adore the Howard Golen, it owner, its beautiful lounge and art collection and gallery space.(we featured their opening event in vol.6 of Hi-Fructose, too). It's only been open for 3 months in Miami and has already exhibited great shows in a perfect environment.
Seems like much of Scot Olsen's solo show was lost, as well as other great works.
We wish all the best to all hit by this and encourage you to purchase prints from the artist at his site of the new work. We'll keep you updated on the Golen Gallery, news and how to help if possible.

Hundreds of amazing and beautiful lowbrow paintings and artwork were destroyed this morning when a fire broke out in Miami Wynwood Art District's "Harold Golen Gallery" (http://haroldgolengallery.com/) - the current exhibition was especially important due to the international art fair Art Basel, which wrapped up this past Sunday.

Among the paintings that were lost are the work of Ron English, Tim Biskup, Niagara, Mars One and most notably Skot Olsen.

The now destroyed show was called "Subjective Reality" and featured at its center ALL of the new neo-psychedelic artwork of Skot Olsen, which has taken years to complete. Destroyed in the fire were a dozen paintings by this lowbrow/pop surrealist artist who unveiling his new direction and more realistic painting style at Art Basel show this weekend.

Obviously, Skot Olsen is shocked and heartbroken and could use any support that the art community can muster. A year of work down the toilet! :-o

and want to thank everyone for their nice words, from dear friends to new

We have inboxes stuffed with questions, advertising requests, etc.,
so it may take some time to get back to you.

on another note:
One of our favoritest artists Dave Cooper, whom we did a big ol feature of
in Volume 1 of Hi-Fructose (still available in our store)
is having a solo show veddy soon. He's done an 8 piece interchangable
painting which can be rotated for multiple combinations.
It's hung o a track to assist in this. and is interchanged in a gallery setting per his custom clock.

Vol.6 is go go go and Updater

So Vol.6 has been in stores, so look for it if you haven't found it already.

To Our subscribers: If you haven't received your copy yet, please don't fret.

We have yet to find a subscriber service that will send your copies
out in 28 pound first class envelopes the way that we do.
(most mags send sub. copies out with awful damaging stickers,
right on the cover, and issues are often folded and smashed
into mail boxes, unprotected and nekkid). We've hired help,
but still send out 1700 of them in gigantic batches,
in nice ($$) envelopes instead, so please be patient.

And please avoid emailing for at least another week
about missing issues, sometimes mail takes longer
in say Hawaii or Spain, where mail carriers go on holiday without replacements often.

We promise to get you your copies in the mail as fast as we can
. We won't forget about you. and thanks to everyone for
subscribing and picking up copies at stores. Our circulation
grew dramatically in the past year, and
we're adding new retailers everyday.

For those looking for back issues:
we still have a few cases of Volume 1. and below are places
that as of last week, had copies of vol.5. Other back issues
are few and far between to find (except on places like ebay).
